FAQs regarding our two-factor products

Windows or MacOS cannot find my Hiddn product
Please note that you will need to format the drive before first time use and when the drive is zeroized (set back to factory settings). Unlike many other disks and drives in the market, Hiddn’s two-factor encryption products cannot be pre-formatted. The reason for this is how the encryption module is designed. When you insert the smart card for the first time, a pairing process will start. Since this is the first time your encryption key is present on the device, any data pre-installed on the drive, like a partition table, will be decrypted with this key. The preinstalled unencrypted data will be completely random data as they were not encrypted in the first place, hence completely useless.

If my Hiddn products is lost will my data be unprotected? / Compromised – unauthorised.
No, as long as you have your smart card your data will have status as “classified”, hence not accessible too others.

But what if both my smart card and Hiddn is stolen, will my data still be protected?
Yes, to be able to access your Hiddn product you need to enter your personal PIN. All Hiddn products are built on the same crypto-platform requiring a 2-factor authentication to access the device.

What happens if I forget my PIN and PUK code?
If you have a self-key product and enters the wrong PIN/passphrase too many times you can still recover your data of a locked storage device by entering the PUK. If you fail to enter PUK the device will erase all data similar to wiping out a disk.

If you do not have a selfkey product, please contact your IT – administrator.

Will the SafeDisk unit replace the existing hard disk in my computer?

YES, SafeDisk will replace the existing hard disk in your laptop.

Does SafeDisk fit any laptop model?

SafeDisk fits laptops with a 2,5” hard drive installed. (adapter til desktop, 2,5 bay / or use adapter 3.5 bay.

How do I keep the data already stored on my existing hard disk?

In order to transfer data from your existing hard disk to SafeDisk you need to back up your data before replacing the hard disk, and then restore the data after completing the installation of SafeDisk.

Is SafeDisk independent from operating systems?

Yes, SafeDisk is completely operating system agnostics.

What is the maximum capacity available?

1 TB SSD.

Is it possible to boot from the KryptoDisk?

Yes. The KryptoDisk operates either as a generic external storage or as a bootable external disk. A secure bootable disk makes it possible to use virtually any computer and still operate in a secure environment.

Can the KryptoDisk change owner?

Yes, use the zeroize function in the Admin mode. The KryptoDisk will be reset to factory settings. Before you do this please remember to take back-up on stored data. To access Admin mode please press ´0´ while turning on your KryptoDisk.

Do KryptoDisk need to be formatted?

Before first time use you will have to format the hard drive. Please follow the instructions in the user guide

Is it possible to boot from the coCrypt?

Yes. The coCrypt operates either as a generic external storage or as a bootable external disk. A secure bootable disk makes it possible to use virtually any computer and still operate in a secure environment. Please note that the size of the coCrypt might reduce the user-experience in a bootable mode compared to the KryptoDisk which comes with higher capacity.

Can the coCrypt change owner?

Yes! Please note that if you use the zeroize function in the Admin mode the coCrypt will be set back to factory settings. Before you do this please remember to take back-up on stored data as zerioze will wipe out the disk and delete all data.

RMA // WARRANTIES

Hiddn offers a 2-year warranty against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use. The warranty period is effective from the date of purchase either directly from Hiddn or an authorised reselle

Our products are advanced encrypted data storage modules. From time to time there might be errors on our products.  If a product is classified as an error, (by margins or functionality), and covered by our product guarantee, we will initiate our RMA-procedure and send a replacement product directly to the customer.
